Morson Edge specialises in recruitment across the engineering and building services sectors, connecting talented engineers with leading consultancies across Australia.
About the Company
We're working with a leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy involved in some of Australia's most significant and technically challenging projects.
The Sydney team works across data centres, airports, stadiums, metro stations and defence projects, offering engineers the opportunity to develop their technical expertise across a broad range of sectors.
The team has a strong focus on technical excellence, making this an excellent environment for engineers who enjoy design and want to continue developing their capabilities.
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer who enjoys being hands-on with engineering design and delivering technically challenging projects.
This opportunity would suit an experienced Intermediate Engineer ready to take on more responsibility, or an established Senior Engineer who wants to remain technically focused rather than move into management.
You'll be involved in:
- Mechanical building services and HVAC design across major multidisciplinary projects.
- Developing mechanical calculations, equipment selections, specifications and technical documentation.
- Designing and coordinating HVAC systems, including air-conditioning, ventilation and chilled-water systems.
- Working closely with electrical, structural, architectural and other engineering disciplines.
- Resolving technical design challenges and coordinating mechanical services with other disciplines.
- Supporting projects through concept, detailed design, documentation and construction.
- Taking ownership of mechanical design packages with support from experienced engineers.
We're particularly interested in engineers who have:
- A background in mechanical building services design within an engineering consultancy.
- Experience working on larger, technically complex projects, ideally within a Tier 1 or major multidisciplinary consultancy.
- Strong hands-on HVAC design capability, including mechanical calculations, system selection and design documentation.
- Experience with central plant, chilled-water systems or complex HVAC installations would be advantageous.
- A sound understanding of Australian building codes and relevant mechanical services standards.
- Experience coordinating with other engineering disciplines.
- The ability to take ownership of design tasks and deliver work with a good level of independence.
- A mechanical engineering qualification.
Applicants must hold Australian permanent residency, citizenship or unrestricted working rights without requiring sponsorship, due to project requirements.
Culture
This is a technically focused engineering team that values people who enjoy solving problems, producing quality designs and developing their engineering expertise.
It's particularly well suited to someone who wants to remain involved in the technical side of engineering rather than move towards an Associate or management-focused position.
You'll be working alongside experienced engineers who are passionate about technical excellence and delivering high-quality engineering solutions.
Benefits to You
- $120,000–$155,000 + super, depending on experience and technical capability.
- Excellent flexible and hybrid working arrangements, with no fixed number of office days.
- Exposure to major data centre, defence, aviation, stadium and transport projects.
- Opportunity to gain data centre experience without needing an existing background in the sector.
- Work alongside experienced engineers in a technically strong multidisciplinary team.
- Develop your experience across complex HVAC systems and major multidisciplinary developments.
- Opportunities to progress technically while remaining hands-on with design.
If you're a Mechanical Design Engineer looking for more technically challenging projects, greater flexibility and the opportunity to work across some of Australia's fastest-growing sectors, I'd be interested in having a confidential conversation.
