Human Resources Director
Melbourne CBD | Permanent, Full Time
Construction & Infrastructure | Executive Leadership

An exciting opportunity for an accomplished HR leader to take on a senior people leadership position within an established organisation operating across major construction and infrastructure projects.

Reporting directly to the Managing Director and sitting on the Executive Leadership Team, you will lead the people strategy across a complex, project-led business. With significant projects currently in delivery and continued growth planned, this is a broad and influential role spanning strategic HR, workforce planning, organisational capability, ER/IR, talent, culture and leadership.

The Role
Leading an established HR function, you will work closely with executive, corporate and project leadership to ensure the people strategy supports both current operations and the organisation's longer-term growth.

Key responsibilities will include:
  • Lead the people strategy in line with business, project and future workforce requirements.
  • Act as a trusted advisor to the Managing Director, Executive Leadership Team and senior operational leaders.
  • Lead strategic workforce planning across major project lifecycles, including mobilisation, retention, redeployment and demobilisation.
  • Provide strategic oversight of complex ER/IR matters, including EBA environments, employee relations, performance and workforce risk.
  • Partner with leadership and HR teams operating across complex construction and Joint Venture environments.
  • Lead organisational change, talent, succession, remuneration, leadership capability and culture initiatives.
  • Lead and develop an established HR team, building capability and collaboration across the wider business.
  • Navigate complex stakeholder environments, balancing business requirements with broader organisational priorities.
About You
You will be a commercially minded and experienced HR leader with the credibility to operate at executive level, combined with a strong understanding of the operational realities of major construction and project environments.

You will ideally bring:
  • Significant senior HR leadership experience within construction, infrastructure or engineering, with major project exposure.
  • Experience operating at HR Director, Head of HR, GM People & Culture or equivalent senior leadership level.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian employment legislation and ER/IR, including experience within EBA environments.
  • Experience working within complex project and/or Joint Venture structures.
  • Strategic workforce planning experience, ideally including mobilisation, demobilisation, redeployment and organisational change.
  • Broad HR capability across talent, remuneration, performance, organisational development and culture.
  • Experience leading HR teams and partnering with Managing Directors, executives and senior operational leaders.
  • Experience operating within a complex, multi-layered organisation with diverse stakeholder groups would be highly regarded.
  • A relevant tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, Employment Relations or a related discipline.
Your Leadership Style
The way you operate will be equally important to your technical HR capability.
You will be collaborative, patient and pragmatic, with the confidence to challenge constructively and the judgement to understand when and how to influence.

This is a complex stakeholder environment where decisions can require consultation, alignment and time. You will therefore be comfortable working within a leadership structure that is continuing to evolve, rather than relying on a fast-paced or highly autonomous decision-making environment. You will bring the cultural awareness and adaptability to navigate different communication and leadership styles, build trust across diverse stakeholder groups and bring people on the journey.

Above all, you will be someone who can maintain momentum without forcing change, knowing when to challenge, when to influence and when to allow time for alignment.

The Opportunity
This is a genuine senior leadership appointment offering:
  • Direct partnership with the Managing Director and Executive Leadership Team.
  • The opportunity to shape and lead the organisation's people strategy.
  • Leadership of an established HR function.
  • Exposure to significant construction and infrastructure projects.
  • The opportunity to support the business through continued growth and workforce transformation.
  • A broad remit across strategy, operations and organisational capability.
  • One day working from home per week.
