Market insight

The Australian Defence market undergoes significant changes due to the government's commitment to enhancing national security, particularly in the Asia-Pacific region. This commitment is exemplified by the AUKUS agreement between the United Kingdom, USA, and Australia, focusing on nuclear-powered submarines. An estimated AUD 368 billion investment by 2040 is allocated for AUKUS, covering long-range strike capabilities, infrastructure development, Defence innovation, and workforce enhancement.

Australia's Defence Strategic Review outlines plans to bolster the Naval fleet, retiring six Anzac class frigates and replacing them with 11 new general purpose frigates. Additionally, the Hobart class destroyers will undergo upgrades to their Aegis combat system. However, only six of the planned nine Hunter class frigates will be acquired, configured for anti-submarine warfare, reducing Tier 1 surface combatants to nine ships. The review also proposes acquiring six large optionally crewed surface vessels.
